2024 Tour de Suisse Women results
Stage 4: Demi Vollering seals overall victory with thrilling stage 4 win
Demi Vollering (SD Worx-Protime) won her third stage of the four-day 2024 Tour de Suisse Women and secured the overall title on Tuesday. She was part of a four-rider breakaway who battled after the final climb and sprinted across the line in Champagne on the final day of racing. Elisa Longo Borghini (Lidl-Trek) took second on the stage and held on to third overall. Canyon-SRAM teammates Neve Bradbury and Kasia Niewiadoma finished third and fourth, respectively, on the stage, with Bradbury holding on to second overall and the youth classification.
Stage 3: Neve Bradbury and Katarzyna Niewiadoma dominate stage 3 for Canyon-SRAM
Neve Bradbury (Canyon-SRAM) won her first professional race on the rolling roads from Vevey to Champagne, breaking away with her teammate and team leader Kasia Niewiadoma, before the two rode to victory together and celebrated with their arms in the air. Race leader Demi Vollering (SD Worx-Protime) finished 2:11 behind the Canyon riders but still leads Bradbury by 1:22.
Stage 2: Demi Vollering wins time trial
One day after winning the opening road stage in Villars-sur-Olon, Demi Vollering (SD Worx-Protime) repeated the trick on the stage 2 time trial in the same mountain town with a strong performance on the final kilometres to stop the clock at 39:47 minutes and extend her lead in the overall classification ahead of the penultimate day of racing.
Stage 1: Demi Vollering wins mountainous opener
Demi Vollering (SD Worx-Protime) won stage 1 of the Tour de Suisse Women, a short but challenging 58.6km stage starting and finishing in Villars-sur-Ollon. The Dutch champion distanced runner-up Gaia Realini (Lidl-Trek) in the last kilometre, while Élise Chabbey (Canyon-SRAM) finished third. Vollering leads the overall classification by 26 seconds.
2024 Tour de Suisse Women Information
Taking place in Switzerland, the fourth edition of the Tour de Suisse Women is a four-day race, June 15-18.
This year, the 327.4km event starts in Villars-sur-Ollon and finishes in Champagne; the route will be held in the Cantons of Thurgau and St. Gallen.
The Tour de Suisse Women held its inaugural edition in 2021, and it joined the Women's WorldTour in 2023, the highest level of women's professional racing.
The Tour de Suisse Women made its long-awaited return to the calendar as a two-stage event four years ago. It was not the first Tour de Suisse for women, as a five-day event was held in 2001 and won by American all-rounder Kim Baldwin. In its return after a 20-year hiatus, the 2.1 ranked women's race took place on the opening weekend of the men’s eight-day WorldTour Tour de Suisse.
In 2021, Lizzie Deignan (Trek-Segafredo) won the Tour de Suisse Women, overtaking Elise Chabbey (Canyon-SRAM) in the second and final stage of the race. Going into stage 2 with a four-second deficit on Swiss rider Chabbey, Deignan targeted the intermediate sprints where she picked up five bonus seconds, finishing the race one second ahead of Chabbey. Marlen Reusser (then Alé BTC Ljubljana) placed third.
The second edition of the Tour de Suisse Women moved up to the UCI Pro Series and expanded to four stages in 2022, adding a time trial to the road stages. Once again, the final stage saw a dramatic battle for overall victory. Lucinda Brand (Trek-Segafredo) took the stage win on day four and the overall title in 2022. Brand led overnight leader Kristen Faulkner (then BikeExchange-Jayco) into the last 200 metres of the summit finish in a two-up sprint, but the American slid out and crashed in the final bend. Faulkner got up and crossed the line 15 seconds back, losing both the stage and the overall title. Pauliena Rooijakkers (then Canyon-SRAM Racing) finished third overall.
In 2023, its first foray onto the Women's WorldTour calendar, Marlen Reusser (SD Worx-Protime) secured the overall victory, with her team winning three of the four stages.
