Biography:
Romain Bardet has been a GC leader at two WorldTour teams - Team dsm-firmenich PostNL and AG2R La Mondiale - for 14 seasons. The Frenchman, born in Brioude on November 9, 1990, looks to compete for an 11th time at the Tour de France in 2024.
After turning heads at the age of 20 with stage wins at Tour de l’Avenir and Tour des Pays de Savoie, he signed with WorldTour-level AG2R La Mondiale in 2012, remaining there through 2020. It was there he carried the country’s Tour de France dreams along with Thibaut Pinot for the better part of a decade. Bardet had his best result with a second place at the 2016 Tour. He had six top 10s to his name as well as a top 10 at the 2021 Giro d'Italia.
Bardet has been one of the top stage racers of his generation and is frequently in the mix for wins at WorldTour level, though he's only won the overall at two stage races in his career – the 2013 Tour de l'Ain and the 2022 Tour of the Alps. With Team DSM, he was sixth at the Tour in 2022 and seventh at the Giro in 2021.
His palmarès also includes three stage wins at the Tour de France between 2015 and 2017, the mountains classification title at the 2019 Tour, a stage of the 2015 Critérium du Dauphiné, and a stage at the 2021 Vuelta a España, where he finished second in the mountain classification to then-teammate Michael Storer. At the Road World Championships in 2018, Bardet captured the silver medal for France.
