Before then, Van Hooydonck had established himself as a rouler who finished on the podium at Kuurne-Bruxelles-Kuurne in 2023 behind Jumbo-Visma teammate Tiesj Benoot, and had been an important domestique for Wout van Aert in the Classics.
Van Hooydonck started his career with the BMC Racing Team in 2018 and remained with the team through its transition to CCC Team before it disbanded in 2020. He joined Jumbo-Visma in 2021.
