Biography:
American rider Matteo Jorgenson is one of the top riders of his generation, displaying versatile strengths in one-day races, time trials and stage races. Born in 1999 in California and growing up in Idaho, Jorgenson got his start with the country's top junior men's racing team, the Hot Tubes Development Cycling Team.
In 2019, Jorgenson won the points classification at the Tour de l'Avenir and raced as a trainee with the AG2R La Mondiale WorldTour team. He signed his first WorldTour contract for 2020 with the Spanish Movistar Team, and debuted with the team at the Tour Colombia. His neo-pro season was shortened due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2021, Jorgenson finished in the top 10 of Paris-Nice, displaying his consistency, and went on to finish his first Grand Tour at the Giro d'Italia. He made his Tour de France debut in 2022. In his final year with Movistar in 2023, Jorgenson won the Tour of Oman and finished second overall in the Tour de Romandie, finishing as the best young rider.
Jorgenson's solid run of results earned him a contract with Visma-Lease a Bike for 2024 and he began the season with his first WorldTour victory, the overall classification at Paris-Nice. His first one-day WorldTour win came at Dwars door Vlaanderen with a solo breakaway. A second place at the Critérium du Dauphiné behind Primož Roglič put him on the list of 2024 Tour de France contenders, where he finished 8th place in the overall classification. Jorgenson is contracted to race with Visma-Lease a Bike until the end of 2026.
