Biography:
Matej Mohoric was born in Kranj, Slovenia on October 19, 1994. Before turning pro with Cannondale in 2014, he showed his strength at both junior and U23 levels, becoming the first rider to win world road titles at both levels in consecutive seasons.
Over the past decade in the professional peloton, Mohoric has grown into one of the stars of the sport, winning stages at all three Grand Tours starting with a 10km solo ride into Cuenca at the 2017 Vuelta a España during his sole season at UAE Team Emirates.
The following year, having already raced for Cannondale and Lampre, he switched to his current squad, Bahrain Victorious, where he picked up the GP Industria e Artigianato, the Slovenian road title, the BinckBank Tour, and a Giro d'Italia stage in Gualdo Tadino.
He's enjoyed the best seasons of his career in recent years, winning breakaway stages of the Tour de France in Le Creusot and Libourne in 2021 in addition to another national title.
For several seasons, Mohoric has been among the top contenders in the hilly and cobbled Classics, recording top 10s at Liège-Bastogne-Liège, Paris-Roubaix, and Milan-San Remo, among others. His big Classics breakthrough came at the latter in 2022, with a famous victory in San Remo seeing him combine his descending prowess with the tech hack of a dropper post.
In 2023, he filled his palmarès yet further, winning a third career Tour de France stage, this time in Poligny, plus the Tour de Pologne, and another world title – the second UCI Gravel World Championships.
