Biography:
As an 18-year-old riding for Team Great Britain, Josh Tarling had a breakout road season in 2022 sweeping five individual time trial races, which included a gold medal as the men’s junior world champion in the race against the clock in Wollongong, Australia. He won the GC title at the Tour de Gironde, and in junior races against the clock he scored wins at the Trophée Centre Morbihan, LVM Saarland Trofeo and Chrono des Nations.
The Welshman also excels on the track. In 2022 he represented Wales at the Commonwealth Games and earned European junior titles in the Omnium and Team Pursuit.
Prior to snatching his world title in the junior ITT, Tarling signed a three-year deal with Ineos Grenadiers, jumping directly to the WorldTour.
In his first season on the top tier of road racing, he opened at Etoile de Bessèges and finished second in the stage 5 time trial. He finished the UAE Tour in support of teammate Luke Plapp, second on GC. A summer filled with spring Classics and one-week stage races led him to top form at the British Road National Championships, where h e won the men’s elite time trial.
After finishing second in the ITT at Tour of Wallonie, just 8 seconds behind teammate and World Champion Filippo Ganna, Tarling scored the victory for Ineos at the next ITT, stage 2 of the Renewi Tour. One month later, he won the elite men’s European Championship in the race against the clock.
