Biography:

Elizabeth 'Lizzie' Deignan (née Armitstead), former road World Champion and winner of the inaugural women's Paris-Roubaix, has been among the pro peloton's most successful riders since emerging as a road racing talent in the early 2010s.

Deignan, born December 18, 1988 in West Yorkshire, England, won a gold medal on the track in the team pursuit in 2009 and then gradually shifted her focus to road racing. She won a silver medal in the Olympic Games road race in 2012, a year in which she also won Gent-Wevelgem. 

The following season was her first of six seasons with the Boels-Dolmans team and she took her first British national road title, having subsequently scored three more to make it a total of four in her career. Amid two decorated campaigns in 2014 and 2015, she was the women's top-ranked rider on the World Cup, topped by securing the rainbow jersey in the elite women's road race in Richmond in 2015.

In 2018, Deignan took a hiatus from racing for the birth of her first child. She joined Trek-Segafredo and resumed competition in 2019, and stormed to victory in that year's OVO Energy Women's Tour. The following season, she took three WorldTour one-day wins at the GP de Plouay, La Course and Liège-Bastogne-Liège, and had a fourth at La Flèche Wallonne and sixth in the road race at Worlds. Then in 2021, she became the first-ever winner of the Paris-Roubaix Femmes.

After spending 2022 away from racing amid the birth of her second child, Deignan returned to competition for the 2023 season, stepping on the podium with third overall at the RideLondon Classique and placing sixth in the road race at the World Championships in Scotland.

The start to Deignan's 2024 season was derailed after breaking her arm at the Tour of Flanders in April, the first fracture of her long career. She bounced back in May and refound form at the Tour of Britain Women where she took seventh overall. The highlight of her season came at the Olympics in Paris, her fourth Games, where she came 12th and helped Pfeiffer Georgi to fifth 12 years after she took silver in London.
