Biography:
Carlos Rodríguez, nicknamed 'The Lion of Almuñécar', was born on the southern coast of Granada, Spain on February 2, 2001. He raced as a 17- and 18-year-old on a Spanish club team and enjoyed success as the men's junior time trial national champion both years and also won the Tour de Gironde and Gipuzkoa Klasika in 2019.
He caught the eye of WorldTour teams and made his professional debut with Ineos Grenadiers in 2020 on a four-year contract fresh out of the junior ranks and has since developed into a solid stage race contender.
Rodríguez finished second in the Tour de l'Avenir in 2021 in his first full year in the WorldTour. In 2022, he won the Spanish national road race championship and made his debut at the Vuelta a España, where he finished seventh overall as a 21-year-old.
His 2023 season was interrupted by a collarbone fracture when he was involved in a crash at Strade Bianche, but he went on to make his Tour de France debut, winning stage 14 in Morzine and finishing fifth overall.
The young Spaniard took up the reigns as a GC leader in 2024, going second overall at Itzulia Basque Country, winning the overall at Tour de Romandie and going fourth overall at Critérium du Dauphiné on his build to finish the year with a Tour de France and Vuelta a España double load. He scored four stage top 10s to finish seventh overall in France and three stage top 10s for 10th overall in Spain.
The start to his 2025 season was upended when he crashed out of the UAE Tour on stage 6 with a broken collarbone.
