Adam Blythe hung up his wheels after 10 years in the peloton, starting and ending his career at Lotto, time in between at BMC, GreenEdge, Tinkoff and Aqua Blue Sport. Born October 1, 1989 in Sheffield in South Yorkshire, England, Blythe rose through the ranks at the British Cycling Academy and turned was soon performing on the WorldTour in 2010 after moving to Belgium with the help of the Dave Rayner Fund to race on the Continental level for two seasons.
The Omega Pharma-Lotto squad secured the services of Blythe in 2009 as a stagiaire and then from 2010-2011 on his first pro contract. He was a key lead-out rider for Philippe Gilbert at Lotto, especially in the Classics, and then moved with the Frenchman to BMC in 2012 for two seasons.
In 2014 he went back to the Continental level for one season, with UK-based NFTO, and took the biggest win of his career to that point, the RideLondon Classic. The victory vaulted him back to the WorldTour level, this time for one season with Orica-GreenEdge alongside Caleb Ewan.
In 2016 riding for the WorldTour Tinkoff squad, Blythe won the road race title at British Road Championships. When the team disbanded at the end of the year, he moved back to the Continental level with Aqua Blue Sport. During the 2017 season, he took stage podiums at Tour de Wallone, Vuelta a Burgos and Vuelta a España, which was third place on 203.4km stage 2 in a bunch sprint. The next year he won the 1.1-level Elfstedenronde and then took silver in the British road race nationals.
His final year in the peloton was at Lotto Soudal, where he rejoined Ewan and helped him to a podium at the Cadel Evans Road Race and three podiums at UAE Tour. With a limited schedule of racing that season at 29 years of age, Blythe began working as a part-time analyst with Eurosport, which launched his off-the-bike career.
