Based outside of San Francisco, California, with clothing made in Italy, Capo was an early adopter of the longer sleeve in short-sleeve jerseys. To get my bias out of the way, I'm a fan of the design, especially when done in stretchy material that lets the jersey conform to different shoulder widths.
Capo has also been an early adopter of incorporating visibility elements into its clothing. This limited-edition Moto GP SL jersey combines the well-designed race fit of Capo's top product with day-glo green bands that are loudly visible by day and reflective by night.
- Highs: Comfort, great on-bike fit, visibility in all conditions
- Lows: Reflective bands aren't quite as supple as the rest of the kit, tough to match with warmers
- Buy if: You like high-end flashy kit — or the idea of being visible to motorists
While this kit is limited — the S bibs and XXL jersey are already sold out — Capo's Luminescence visibility concept of hi-vis hues plus reflective elements can be found in many of the firm's pieces. The scores of small reflective dots in Capo's Luminescence are basically glass that is laminated into the fabric. This process affects the garment's elasticity a little, and adds a small amount of weight. This is only really noticeable when pulling on the jersey or bibs, as the wide cuffs don't slide on as smoothly as non-treated cuffs. Once on, however, the only thing you notice is how bright they are!
The Luminescence cuffs reflect artificial light
The Moto GP SL jersey is comprised of 11 panels. The chest and sleeves feature a channeled fabric called Speed that's almost like a techy wide corduroy, giving a unique textured look to the top, and keeping it flush against the skin. The jersey isn't super lightweight, and is comfortable in cool weather. Mesh panels under the arms help with ventilation; you can feel the wind moving across your skin on downhills. The main body uses Carbon ES microfiber, which has anti-bacterial properties.
Thanks in part to the silicone touches under the cuff and to the construction in general, the long sleeves stay in place on and off of the bike, being form fitting without being constricting.
In addition to the Luminescence cuffs, the jersey has reflective tabs sewn into the sides of the pockets.
The jersey shown here is a size M. I'm 6ft / 183cm and 185lb / 84kg.
Good bib shorts are those that you just never think about when you're riding, and the Moto GP SL bib short fits this bill. The medium-compression legs move with you, the Luminescence cuffs stay in place without squeezing, and the mid-thickness chamois strikes a good balance of padding and disappearing beneath you on the bike.
The bibs shown here are size L.
You can buy the jersey, bib shorts or socks alone, but the price shown here is the discount for all three. (Australian price is for jersey and bibs together).
