It was a dominant week for Tadej Pogačar (UAE Team Emirates) and he won his fourth stage on Sunday and secured the GC title at Volta a Catalunya. The Slovenian won the stage 7 sprint ahead of Dorian Godon (Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale) and Guillaume Martin (Cofidis). Tadej Pogačar (UAE Team Emirates) extended his general classification lead on Saturday with a solo victory on stage 6. The duo of Egan Bernal (Ineos Grenadiers) and Mikel Landa (Soudal-QuickStep) battled on the final of five major climbs to finish 57 seconds back, Bernal using his second place to move into third overall and Landa losing time in second overall.
Stage 5: Axel Laurance wins stage 5 sprint with bike throw / As it happened
Axel Laurance (Alpecin-Deceuninck) chalked up his first WorldTour win in a bunch sprint after an agressive day of racing on stage 5. The Frenchman out-paced Marijn van den Berg and Bryan Coquard.
Stage 4: Marijn van den Berg charges to stage 4 sprint victory / As it happened
The first sprinter's stage went to the script, with a three-man breakaway off the front for most of the stage before the fast men's teams chased them down, controlled the late attacks, and fought for position ahead of the finish. Marijn van den Berg (EF Education-EasyPost) took the win.
Stage 3: Tadej Pogačar does it again / As it happened
Tadej Pogačar made his second consecutive mountaintop victory at the Volta a Catalunya look easy as the UAE Team Emirates rider crossed the line solo with the stage 3 win at the summit finish at Port Ainé. He finished 48 seconds ahead of Mikel Landa (Soudal-QuickStep) and 1:03 ahead of Antonio Tiberi (Bahrain-Victorious). Pogačar now has a commanding 2:27 lead in the overall classification with four stages to go.
Stage 2: Tadej Pogacar dominates atop Vallter 2000 seizing overall lead / As it happened
As many anticipated, Tadej Pogacar (UAE Team Emirates) dominated on the mountaintop finish at Vallter 2000, winning stage 2 and taking the overall lead at the Volta Ciclista a Catalunya. Pogačar now leads the overall classification by 1:35 over Mikel Landa (Soudal-QuickStep) and an additional three seconds over Aleksandr Vlasov (Bora-Hansgrohe).
Stage 1: Nick Schultz narrowly beats Pogacar / As it happened
Nick Schultz (Israel-Premier Tech) won the opening stage of the Volta a Catalunya after a late attack inside the final kilometre in Sant Feliu de Guíxols. The Australian struck out with a surprise attack 500 metres from the line at the end of the 174km opener to hold off a late-charging Tadej Pogačar (UAE Team Emirates) on the uphill finish.
