Action from the opening two days
The UCI Track World Cup is a series made up of three events held over the winter, the first of which is taking place in Cali, Colombia, from October 30 – November 1.
The meet sees the track season swing into full flow and represents an important milestone on the road to the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio. As well as building form and testing themselves in a competitive environment, riders will be able to secure UCI points needed to officially qualify for the Olympics next summer.
Racing is spread out over three days, the first of which sees the team pursuit and team sprint for both the men and women, along with the men’s points race. Bradley Wiggins, who’s aiming to bring the curtain down on his career with a medal at Rio, will be hoping for success in the pursuit with his Great Britain teammates, who recently took gold at the European Championships.
The omniums get underway on day 2 with the first three of six races, and reigning European champions Laura Trott (Great Britain) and Elia Viviani (Italy) will be among the favourites int he women's and men's fields respectively. Also on the agenda are the scratch race and individual sprint for the women, and the individual pursuit and keirin for the men.
The third and final day sees the conclusion of the omniums, the men’s individual sprint and Madison, and the women’s keirin. Five-time Olympic gold medallist Anna Meares is the reigning world champion in the keirin and will be looking to stamp her authority once again, as well as guiding a strong Australia squad to victory in the team sprint on day 1.
