Local Chilean rider Javier Püschel took first place in the demanding 62km second stage of the Trans Andes in Southern Chile.
Püschel crossed the line in three hours, eight minutes and 20 seconds. Stage 1 winner Joao Marinho of Portugal was second in 3:19:48, fast enough to retain his overall lead. Men's duo team Matthew Hadley and Benoit Simard from Canada were third on the day.
Americans Mary MacConnleoug and Michael Broderick were again the fastest mixed team, finishing in 3:44:10 while their compatriot Rebecca Rusch continues to top the solo women's standings.
The stage began with a long, steep climb into the mountains and finished up at the Coñaripe Hot Springs, where competitors could soak their tired muscles in the stone pools.
Tomorrow's stage 3 will cover 77km from Termas de Coñaripe to Termas de Menetue. The course will go through the Ruta Transvolcanica in the Villarrica National Park.
