Roglic sews up second Tour de Romandie title in a row
Jumbo-Visma's Primoz Roglic dominated the 2019 Tour de Romandie for the second year in a row, taking three stage wins out of a possible six, and taking the overall victory by 49 seconds over UAE Team Emirates' Rui Costa, with 2018 Tour de France champion Geraint Thomas (Team Ineos) rounding out the podium another 23 seconds back.
After placing second on the opening prologue time trial, the seeds of the Slovenian's victory were truly sewn on stage 1, when Roglic won the stage from a group of 20 riders who finished with almost a minute's gap to the rest of the field. He then made sure he was still in the mix with third place on stage 3 before winning stage 4 ahead of Costa and Thomas.
Roglic then finished things off with a dominating ride in the final time trial, beating new Hour Record holder Victor Campenaerts (Lotto Soudal) by 13 seconds and Thomas's Ineos teammate Filippo Ganna by 15 seconds over the 16.8km course in Geneva.
