The 55th edition of Tirreno-Adriatico, which typically takes place in March, has been rescheduled for September 7-14, 2020.
The prestigious week-long WorldTour stage race carries the nickname 'the race of the two seas' given the route traditionally starts on the west coast of Italy, by the Tyrrhenian Sea, and ends on the other side of the country, by the Adriatic.
The 2019 edition of Tirreno-Adriatico was won by Primož Roglič (Jumbo-Visma), who finished on the podium of three of the stages before overhauling Adam Yates (Mitchelton-Scott) on the final-day time trial by a single second to claim the title.
There will be an additional stage (eight instead of seven) in 2020, including two high mountain stages to make the route even more challenging. The 181km route for stage 7 has been added from Pieve Torina to Loretto, which includes several passes of the Loretto climb that reaches an 18 per cent gradient. The final stage will be the 10.1km time trial in San Benedetto del Tronto.
