Meeusen solos to win
Van Empel prevents Telenet-Fidea one-two
Tom Meeusen handed the Telenet Fidea team its third victory of the weekend, doubling up on his victorious effort in Hasselt. Perhaps inspired by his elite teammate Zdenek Stybar and Kevin Pauwels, who repeated Meeusen and Robert Gavenda's team double on Saturday, the Telenet Fidea team was aggressive once more in Hamme Zogge.
Meeusen escaped from a large lead group, followed only by Dutch rider Micki van Empel, but the ZZPR.nl rider could not maintain Meeusen's furious pace on the final lap, and faded from view.
Van Empel had ample time to secure second place, however, holding off the charge of another Fidea rider, Vincent Baestaens. Pawel Szczepaniak rolled in for fourth just ahead of a bunch sprint which was won by Jim Aernouts (BKCP Powerplus).
