2015 Santos Women’s Tour race recap
Last year saw the launch of the inaugural Santos Women’s Tour, as a progression of the former Santos Women’s Cup. The event was also a member of the Cycling Australia's Subaru National Road Series. Although it was not a registered UCI-classed event, it attracted some of the world’s top teams and racers.
Italy’s Valentina Scandolara (Orica-AIS) opened the 2015 Santos Women’s Tour with a victory in stage 1’s Woodside to Murray Bridge road race, and took the event’s first leader’s jersey. Her teammate Melissa Hoskins won stage 2 in Adelaide and Orica-AIS kept Scandolara in the overall lead. Wiggle Honda’s Giorgia Bronzini won stage 3 from Tanunda to Campbelltown in a bunch sprint but it wasn’t enough to take Scandolara out of the overall lead with one stage to go. Hoskins took her second stage win during the finale stage 4, while Scandolara, who led the race from start to finish, won the overall title by six seconds ahead of runner-up Hoskins and third placed Loren Rowney (RoXSolt).
