The 2016 Redlands Bicycle Classic will mark 32 years of professional racing in this southern California town about 30 miles east of Los Angeles. Although Redlands no longer holds the opening position on USA Cycling's reconfigured and newly named Professional Road Tour, the five-day race with a pure-bred pedigree continues to draw the top US and Canadian domestic teams.
Matteo Dal-Cin emerged as the surprise winner after the Silber Pro Cycling rider slipped away in the final stage's breakaway and overnight race leader Janier Acevedo's Jamis team was unable to pull it back.
Kristin Armstrong (Twenty16-RideBiker) parlayed her superior time trialing skills into the overall victory over Mara Abbott (Amy D Foundation), but Abbott's performance was remarkable for coming despite a fractured collarbone sustained on stage 2. Eri Yonamine (Dare to Be) was third ahead of teammate Amber Neben.
