Sep Vanmarcke's win at the 2019 edition of Bretagne Classic-Ouest France helped banish the Belgian's memories of an unlucky and injury-hit spring.
Vanmarcke didn't ride the Tour de France but rebuilt his form via a different programme of races, with the Bretagne-Ouest France race clearly suited to his aggressive nature.
He made it into the decisive split with 80km to go and then got away with Lotto Soudal's Tiesj Benoot and Jack Haig (Mitchelton-Scott), who made up the podium in that order after Vanmarcke was able to jump away from them in the final kilometre to take the win by three seconds.
The 2020 edition of Bretagne-Ouest France is again part of the UCI men's WorldTour calendar.
