De Bertolis takes emotional victory & Schwing wins women's race
Dietsch and Simoni round out top three
The 15th Südtirol Dolomiti Superbike drew 3525 cyclists from 28 nations and was run under radiant sunshine. The race previously hosted the UCI Marathon World Championships (in 2008) and two World Cups.
Massimo De Bertolis won the 115.5km marathon in 4:34. Frenchman Thomas Dietsch took second after a thrilling sprint to the finish with Gilberto Simoni, former Giro d'Italia winner.
De Bertolis celebrated his comeback to racing with a 27-second advantage
"I love this circuit. After my victory in 2007, today's is much greater. I devote this victory to my wife and children after a difficult period," said the emotional winner De Bertolis, with tears in his eyes.
Pre-race favorite Mike Felderer suffered cramps and finished fifth.
In the women's race, German marathon champion Kathrin Schwing triumphed to win with a time of 5:40. Until the last climb, she was more than seven minutes behind last year's winner Elena Giacomuzzi, but she fought her way to the front for the win.

"I need time to gain my momentum, but I like long distances to find my pace," said Schwing. Giacomuzzi finished second. Third was Elena Gaddoni. Alexandra Hober, in fourth place, was the Best South Tyrolean.
"Now I ride for a hobby. I went out too quickly and started cramping," said Hober, who won in 2000.
The GT Golden Bike went to the fastest "Amateur Cyclist", Klaus Fontana from Olang, who finished in 4:49 and 13th overall. In 2007, he won the Superbike.
