In SRAM’s ongoing hydraulic road brake recall process, the component maker will offer riders at the US Cyclo-cross Nationals a free exchange and installation of stop gap Avid mechanical brakes.
In a statement, SRAM’s Global Marketing Director David Zimberoff said the recall had “especially impacted the US cyclo-cross community in advance of Nationals".
SRAM also said that extra mechanical staff will be at the event in Boulder, Colorado, to carry out the work. Competing athletes will be prioritised but amateurs with problem brakes will also have theirs serviced.
The replacement service will run between 8am on Tuesday, 7 January to Saturday, 11 January.
SRAM said it remains focused on the “replacement plan for all consumers globally”.
In December, the Chicago company issued a recall for 38,000 SRAM Red hydraulic road disc and hydraulic rim brakes after cold weather was found to accelerate the degeneration of a seal, leading to potential safety hazard. It was the second recall of its hydraulics brakes. The first, in November pertained to a narrow serial number batch.
