German team Gerolsteiner is getting prepared for the one-day classic Rund um die Nürnberger Altstadt, to take place on Sunday, September 10. Team manager Hans-Michael Holczer has his bets on a sprint finish, "and for that we have a fast man with us: David Kopp," he said. Even if the Cat. 1.1 race sees a breakaway get through, Holczer is optimistic. "That's why we have Sebastian Lang and Frank Hoj in our roster," he added.
Last year's winner, Ronny Scholz, currently races the Tour of Poland for Gerolsteiner, but the team is ready to defend his title. Michael Rich might make his last appearance at the event. "It could be the last race for him before he stops," Holczer continued. "You never know. So I will definitely be there, as we have worked together for over 13 years now."
Last, but not least, a stagiaire joins team Gerolsteiner at this race: 21 year-old Johannes Fröhlinger (SC Sarreguemines) proved his talent by winning the Trophée des champions and the Tour d'Alsace this season. Fröhlinger, who is literally a "Gerolsteiner" since he was born in the town which gave his name to the mineral water source, hopes to do well enough in the pro ranks to get himself a contract for next season.
The Gerolsteiner roster for Rund um die Nürnberger Altstadt will thus be: Thomas Fothen, Johannes Fröhlinger, Frank Hoj, David Kopp, Sebastian Lang and Michael Rich.
