British Cycling names squad for Manchester World Cup
Hoy and Pendleton named in 19 rider squad, Katusha's Swift to make return to the track
British Cycling has announced a 19-rider squad for the first round of the UCI Track Cycling World Cup at Manchester Velodrome from October 30 to November 1. Chris Hoy and Victoria Pendleton have been named in a five rider line-up for Team Sky +HD, while Katusha professional Ben Swift has been selected in a 14 strong contingent for Team Great Britain.
For Hoy, the Manchester World cup round will be his first international event since a crash in the keirin at final round of last year's World Cup in Copenhagen. The four-time Olympic gold medal winner has returned to competition, prior to the World Cup, at the British championships this week.
Pendleton, too, will face up to her first international competition since the Track World Championships in March. She is expected to face stiff competition in her favoured sprint events from within the British team, with Rebecca James and Jess Varnish selected for Team Great Britain.
Ben Swift has also been named in the squad. The 21-year-old will make his return to senior track competition for the first time since the Manchester round of the World Cup in 2007, where he won a bronze medal in the team pursuit.
