Tom Boonen broke the big toe on his right foot Wednesday in a training accident, Team Quickstep has announced.
The Belgian was training near his home in Mol when he tried to avoid a collision with a car at an intersection. To avoid the car, he went up on the sidewalk. In the process, he hit a signpost with his right foot, breaking his toe and also scraping his leg.
He will now rest for a few days before resuming training. Boonen will now not be able to ride the Volta a Catalunya, as was planned, but "at the moment his participation at the Tour de France isn't in jeopardy," the team wrote on its website, qsi-cycling.com.
