Third annual Corporate Challenge and Bentley Graphic Communicatons madison series

Lehigh Valley Velodrome, July 26, 2002

Big Business Takes Over the Velodrome

The third annual Corporate Challenge had ten local corporations battling it out on the "concrete crater" at the Lehigh Valley Velodrome on Friday. Air Products and Chemicals Inc., the reigning champion from last year, returned this year to defend their title against such businesses as Mack Trucks, The Morning Call and PP & L. The night was not all "business," but some fun as well with the Bentley Graphic Communications Madison Series and women's racing.

The corporations decided to capitalize on some healthy competition during the time trials and the men and women's scratch races. The time trials were intense, as Air Products A finished with the best time, beating second place finishers PP & L and third place finishers Air Products B. Individual competitors raced in the women's 3-lap final, with Nancy Grim from Lehigh Cement pulling ahead of her colleagues. In the men's 5-lap final, Scott Redinger, a T Network employee, demonstrated he is more than just a shrewd businessman when he placed first ahead of his competitors.

The Corporate Challenge Final drew the crowd to their feet again as Air Products B went head to head with Morgan Stanley, resulting in a third place win overall for Air Products B. Air Products was able to keep their winning title for the third time when Air Products A beat out second place finisher PP & L. An awards ceremony was held for the winners at Red Robin Restaurant in Allentown after the races.

The 40-lap Madison proved an exciting race, as teammates Bobby Lea and Kyle Wamsley tasted victory again in the Bentley Graphic Communications Series. The race ran into some trouble, as Mike Pudlinski and Stefan Collins collided in the heat of the event. Fortunately, both riders were able to walk away from the crash, and the race continued.

The women had their share of glory as well, with Sarah Uhl placing first in both the 10-lap final and the unknown distance. A close race ensued during the miss-and-out, and the tension was finally broken when Becky Conzelman managed to coast into first place ahead of Ashley Kimmet and Sarah Uhl.
