The major difficulty of the day is the 18-kilometre Morredero climb at the stage finish. The climbs takes the riders to an altitude of 1750 metres and it's a bit of a brute in places. Some sections are 11 and 12 percent and the final 500 metres are as steep as five percent. A young Roberto Heras won the stage here on the Vuelta's only other visit in 1997.
