Hushovd extends through 2011
“Good feeling” with Team Cervelo
Thor Hushovd has extended his contract with Cervelo TestTeam through 2011, the team announced on Thursday. The Norwegian sprinter, who has four victories so far this year, will ride the upcoming Tour de France in pursuit of his green jersey.
“I have a really good feeling with this team,” the 31 year-old said. “The philosophy, the ambitions and the morale of the team is how I like it and want it to be. I always get great support from my teammates, so the decision to extend the contract was an easy one.”
Thomas Campana, the team's managing director, was also pleased. “He is a great rider, an experienced athlete as well as a very likeable person.”
Hushovd turned pro in 2000 and rode for Credit Agricole until this season. He won the Tour's green jersey in 2005, and has won two stages at the 2006 Tour, the opening prologue and the final stage.
In 2009 the Norwegian won a stage at the Tour of California, and two stages in the Volta a Catalunya, plus the one-day race Omloop Het Nieuwsblad. He most recently rode the Tour de Suisse, where he finished ninth in the points classification.
