Park Tool debuts revamped pro-level repair stand, fleet of new tools for '10
Park Tool's new PRS-25 Team Issue Portable Stand looks to easily be its best repair stand to date with an easier-to-use and more stable leaning tripod frame design plus a more refined clamp that should work better with modern bicycle designs.
In contrast with the PRS-15's somewhat clunky individual five-leg setup, the PRS-25's legs move in unison with a far more elegant sliding head that also locks in place. Stout support struts and Park's unique 'Hexatude' six-sided tubing look sturdy enough to handle downhill bikes, too, and total weight is down to just 6kg (13.2lb) for easier transport (the PRS-25 was an unwieldy 11.6kg).
The telescoping mast is adjustable in height from 112-152cm (45-60") and topped with Park's new 100-25D Professional Micro-Adjust Shop Clamp. Opening and closing the new clamp is finally now a true one-handed operation with both gross quick-release and fine screw-down adjustment and the clamp size range is an impressive 23-76mm (7/8-3"). Moreover, the rubber-coated jaws are now oriented 90 degrees from the PRS-15's clamp for better compatibility with aero-shaped seatposts. The new repair stand should begin arriving in stores around January 2010.
Park has also developed its own BX-1 tool case specially designed for traveling mechanics. The custom-made composite-and-aluminum boxes feature customizable Park-designed inserts and tool boards for easy-to-find organization, a removable small parts container, and a handy hanging front board.
Park will offer the BX-1 both empty and pre-filled with a collection of 35 of its most popular (and useful) tools. Either way, an optional BXB-1 harness turns the loaded case into a backpack for easier transport to and from the venue.
2010 will also see a variety of new tools to match up with the latest crop of available componentry from Shimano, Campagnolo, SRAM and others. The new CT-4.2 chain tool is now compatible with all 10- and 11-speed chains while the matching CT-11 is specifically designed to peen 11-speed chain pin heads after installation for greater pull strength.
Other highlights include the BBT-90 to remove cartridge bearings from press-fit bottom bracket cups, the CBP-3 to remove Campagnolo Ultra-Torque crankset bearings, a new cutter to face 1.5" head tubes, thru-axle truing adapters, and additional cone wrench sizes.
